This is not a competition where the work is assessed by a judge, but is sent out as a selection of work to be handled by each club in the form of a critique.

The purpose of the Critique is to encourage clubs to simply devote an evening to look at and appreciate good quality prints. These high quality prints are selected from those prints which, due to space restrictions, are unable to be hung in our Annual Exhibition. The exhibition space restricts us to hanging a maximum of 150 prints but we have several hundred prints of equal quality that are not exhibited. It is from these that the Critique selection is made, ensuring that no one person or club dominates the selection.

We ask that you treat these prints with great care so that the following club, and eventually their owner, receives them in the best condition.

Each club on the rota will receive the prints for viewing from the previous club. It is the viewing clubs responsibility to contact and arrange delivery of the Critique boxes to the next club on the rota in time for their club viewing. A reminder will be sent approximately four weeks before the viewing date giving details of the club you will be receiving from and the club you have to deliver to. With such a large area to cover and the large number of clubs involved it is inevitable that some clubs will be required to travel longer distances in a short time to ensure that the next club receives the Critique in time for their viewing.

There are a number of ways that clubs can view the prints and some of these will be suggested in the reminder sent out to each club. The object is to look closely at each image and appreciate why the picture was taken and what the photographer was trying to show.

A comment book is included with the prints. Please be frank with your comments and share with us how you organised the evening and how successful it was. The Executive will review your comments when the prints have finished their circulation.

A preliminary rota for the next two years is appended. It was not possible in preparing these rotas to take into account every clubs ideal viewing date, so please do your best to accommodate the date listed. Please advise the Critique Secretary if there is a problem which you cannot resolve.
